Lupita Nyong’o gushed about her ‘Best Supporting Actress’ Oscar win this morning on ‘Live with Kelly & Michael’ where she also admitted that she hadn’t had a chance to sleep.
Lupita was the most talked about actress at last night’s Academy Awards; everybody was convinced she’d win the Oscar except the actress herself who tells Kelly and Michael that it still hasn’t sunk in yet.
“It is overwhelming but at the same time this is what I’ve trained for, this is what I’ve availed myself for. I’m just trying to allow myself to absorb it all. It has happened. 12 midnight came and this did not disappear,” she explained on the show.
Lupita was partying at an Oscars after-party following her win at the awards show and supposedly didn’t leave until the early hours when she was then rushed to get ready for this interview! Wowza — and she still manages to look this foiiiiine?
“Gratitude is an emotion which is hard to articulate anyway, so I try to do my best to prepare,” she continued. “Well for the first half of the night I was being very, very selfish. I wouldn’t let anyone even take a picture with it [Oscar award]. No. No one was holding it. And then…it’s really heavy.”
Lupita Nyong’o could’ve fooled me when she said she had gotten no sleep and that she wasn’t sure if she was going to win. Her performance in 12 Years a Slave was amazing — did y’all see the bit where her back was lashed open by the constant hits with the whip? I was eating when that happened too.
There’s no denying that Lupita’s film roles are going to be staggering now as directors are desperate to have her working on her movie.
I just hope that she doesn’t turn into one of those Oscar winners who receives a lot of attention one year and then the next, you never hear from them again. To catch the interview, see above.
Oh — and sidenote: see below for what Chelsea Handler wrote on Twitter about Lupita that has a lot of people fuming. I found it rather funny but tell me what you think.
