The actress made the comments after supposedly seeing a bunch of girls writing on her social media sites that she looked so “stunning” and “gorgeous” (which she does), but Troian reassured her viewers that the reason why she looks so good is merely down to make-up.
That’s not us knocking down how good looking she really is, these were her own words. She explained: “So. Getting compliments is wonderful and everyone should feel beautiful in their own skin.”
“But I get my hair and make up done professionally. For a job. That’s not beauty. That’s make up it’s a curling iron and hairspray.”
Her statement on Instagram came just months after she opened up about having struggled with an eating disorder when she was younger. Taking this into mind, you can sense why she wants young girls to know that beauty comes form within.
“What’s beautiful is inside you. It’s your creativity. It’s your intelligence. Your empathy and your kindness to your fellow man.”
“I could care less about being ‘pretty’ or ‘perfect’ and we should all ask ourselves why in our society that is the ‘highest’ and most common compliment we are paying to our female friends.”
It seems like all of the actresses on PLL have pretty tough skin and really use their platform to get the word out there to youngsters that just because they may look amazing in magazines or on TV shows, it’s most likely not what they look like on a normal day out.
Co-star Ashley Benson spoke out about the immensely Photoshopped promo ad for Pretty Little Liars, where she said:
“Saw this floating around…. hope it’s not the poster. Our faces in this were from 4 years ago….. and we all look ridiculous. Way too much photo shop. We all have flaws. No one looks like this. It’s not attractive.”
LOVE these girls.
