Mariah, who told the Breakfast Club two months ago that she wasn’t familiar with Bey’s Drunk in Love, dished to Billboard that the album’s initial release date for May 6th has been scrapped because she and her team aren’t quite happy with the final product.
There were talks on certain samples still awaiting to receive the clearance before they could actually be put on the record among other issues, according to several blogs.
Well, the good news is that Mariah still plans on releasing the album sometime this year — but when that’ll happen will remain to be a mystery.
“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Mariah told the mag, saying that her new music comes from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”
One could say that Mariah is purposely delaying her new album to clash with Nicki Minaj’s forthcoming record. We all know that the rapper also plans on delivering some new material later this year, so maybe Mariah wants to go head to head with her? Who knows.
The 44-year old went on to admit that she’s aware and acknowledged the fact that her last single, You’re Mine, was a drastic flop on the charts, peaking at number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Here’s what she said: ”You would think I would be all about the singles-driven situation, and I am in a way, but with this particular album I want my fans to hear it as a body of work. This is my life since we last left off. Just picture a dot dot dot, and then here’s the album.”
What do you think of Mariah’s secret album release? Though it’s disappointing to hear that the album she’s been working on for four years has now been pushed back again, it’ll definitely be worth it… I hope.
