The Bajan-beauty has quietly left her old label to join Jay-Z’s side who currently has artists such as Rita Ora, J. Cole, Calvin Harris and Jay Electronica signed to his company.
It’s unclear why the 26-year old decided to make the move, but there’s no denying that Rih-Rih made a lot of money for Def Jam after having inked her first deal back in 2005 when Jay was still the president.
After the rapper’s departure in 2009, Rihanna reportedly felt “disconnected” not being under the same label as the man who is pretty much responsible for everything she has achieved thus far.
Perhaps Rih got cold feet and wanted to remain in a place of confidence? Either way, we’re hearing she’s parted ways with Def Jam and has now been moved to Roc Nation — their website has since been updated with Rihanna’s name under their “Artists” category.
Def Jam has moved Rih’s name from its own “Artists” page to “Legacy” which includes a number of fellow artists who used to be signed to the label, including Ashanti and Amerie.
An official announcement of Rihanna’s decision to leave Def Jam is expected to be made in the following days — congratulations to her! I’m sure the next album will be fire.
Wonder if her stalker and mini-me, Rita Ora, will be featured on the record now that they’re under the same management and the same label.
