The actress, famous for having starred in films such as Mr & Mrs. Smith, Tomb Raider and Salt, told reporters earlier this week that her acting career may come to an end in the near future so that she can focus on other ventures.
Jolie has been acting since the 90s, has grossed billions of dollars a the box office and is still in a position where she can demand up to $20 million per movie, so why the sudden change to quit acting?
Well, according to Angie, working as an actress is time consuming and while she still has a huge passion for movies and being on set of a film, she wants to focus her time on other things such as directing her own work and giving more of her time to charities in need.
“[Acting’s] going to be taking more of a back seat. I’ve had a wonderful career and I’m going to be taking all of the opportunities I’ve had to tell stories and work for as long as I have,” she revealed at the Maleficent premiere earlier this week.
“I’m sure there’ll be a few more films, but I’m happy I’m able to be selective and have fun with characters like this. I would like to focus more on writing and directing, and above all I would like to focus more on my work with the UN.”
Ugh — how can you not love this woman?
She wants to quit acting so that she can become her own boss and direct her own movies while she’ll also have the time to focus on her charitable work and be a good mother for her children who are starting to reach their teenage age. At least for one of them (Maddox).
I think this is a great move for Angelina.
Her hubby, Brad Pitt, has also kinda followed the route that Angie plans on going into — appearing in less movies, working on her own projects behind the scenes so that there’s still time to indulge on other things away from the camera lens.
By “a few more films,” I’d assume that the recently-announced Salt 2 will be one of the last movies she’ll release for some time.
