James Franco Blasts ‘Spring Breakers’ Sequel As “Terrible” And “Weak”

james franco spring breakersJames Franco is not happy about a possible Spring Breakers sequel.

The actor, who starred in the movie last year alongside Selena Gomez and Ashley Benson, is fuming on the idea of having a different director with a whole new team take on the project in what he believes will be a “weak project”.

The Spider-Man actor took to his Instagram page to shut down rumors he was planning to be part of the second instalment. And while denying the rumor, he also goes on to slam the people who plan on making the sequel.

“STATEMENT ABOUT SPRING BREAKERS 2,” he started off by saying.

“This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel.”

“I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’être: to make money off someone else’s creativity.”

James Franco ended his statement by saying: “Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without [Martin] Scorcese and [Robert] DeNiro’s consents? Insanity! I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity.”

He makes a great point. Having a whole new team make money from a sequel they weren’t involved with from the beginning makes no sense.

But what’s even more interesting is the fact that people are actually planning on making a second movie of this film, seeing that the first only made $14million in the United States.

It’ll be interesting to see what they plan on doing with the second instalment, but it’s clear that James wants nothing to do with it!
