The 18-year-old pop singer got his start on YouTube just like Bieber, but he is annoyed that people associate the two. Bieber has recently had a negative spotlight on him after his bad behavior and the released video of him using racial slurs.
Recently, Mahone, a San Antonio native, performed the National Anthem at Game 1 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio, Texas. It was an honor for Mahone to sing in his hometown.
Mahone’s career began after he posted Youtube videos and gained a large online following.
He even posted videos covering Bieber and the song “Mistletoe,” which totals over 15 million views. Mahone signed to Lil Wayne‘s ‘Cash Money/Young Money’ and will begin touring in July.
He told ABC News, “I can kind of see where they’re coming from, but at the same time, it’s kind of obnoxious,” he complained regarding the comparison.
“They see a young kid who sings and dances and they’re like, ‘Oh another Justin Bieber.’ Like, you don’t even know. You don’t know me. You don’t know my music. You’re just making assumptions.”
It is apparent Mahone is on the right path to success and is staying focused on his career. When discussing his current state and the future he said, “I may not be the best dancer or the best performer right now, but I’m always getting better. Next year I’ll be even better than I am now. And the year after that, I’ll just keep getting better.”
The teenage heartthrob definitely has the looks and ambition to be successful. With all the young girls chasing after him, you can see why he is similar to Justin Bieber. Mahone is irritated with the comparison to Bieber, but he will not have to worry any longer if he stays clear of any bad behavior and trouble.
