The Oscar winning actress was part of Queen Elizabeth’s annual Birthday Honors list.
The Queen gave out other honors to people that did great services for their community. Jolie, known for her humanitarian work, was given the honor for her work combating sexual violence in war zones.
Jolie was given the honor after spending four days with people discussing sexual violence. People from all over attend the conference, like Somalia and Kosovo. Jolie co-hosted the conference and had Brad Pitt by her side.
Receiving the title was a good ending to the conference. In addition, according to the “NY Daily News”, “at the conference’s close 155 countries signed a declaration of commitment to end sexual violence in conflict, and many, including the U.S. and Britain, pledged funds to support the cause”.
The reason why she is an ‘honorary’ dame is because she is not a British citizen. Other U.S. recipients who received the honorary title are Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates and Ronald Reagan.
Jolie said, “to receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to”.
Keep up the good work Angelina!
