The former UK and US X Factor judge has been very vocal about her struggle with eating disorders in the past — surprisingly, Nicole says that she hated herself so much at one point, she wouldn’t eat for days and lock herself in her bedroom.
Her interview with Cosmo was no different. Scherzinger goes into detail on the emotional times she faced when her weight plummeted and she still struggled to find herself beautiful.
“Thinking about it I try not to well up… It is such a horrible paralyzing disease and it was such a dark time for me,” she explained.
“That’s why I can empathize so much with people who have demons and voices in their heads, who aren’t nice to themselves. It robs you of living your life.”
”But you can recover and you can get rid of it forever. I did it and that’s why it’s so important for me to share my story,” the ex Pussycat Dolls starlet said. She wants to be considered the voice of the younger generation who are struggling with the same issues she faced — self-confidence and having self-esteem.
“I felt so alone… but I made myself so alone. You hide it from the world, you isolate yourself. But you can beat it – do not give up because you’re so special and you’re meant for such great things.”
Nicole recalls a time she passed out on the floor and her manager ended up finding her unconscious. That was the say she knew she had to take care of herself, she says. The weight loss and the self-hatred she had made her “lose her identity” and her voice to the point where she couldn’t even sing anymore.
“I had started losing my voice, I couldn’t sing at shows, and then I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France. I thought, ‘I’m going to lose everything I love if I don’t love myself.’”
Gotta love her for being so brutally honest. Luckily, she’s found happiness in her seven-year romance to Lewis Hamilton who she’s allegedly engaged to. Good for her.
