Robert Downey Jr.‘s son, Indio, was charged with a felony for drug possession.
According to reports, the Iron Man actor’s son was arrested at a traffic stop last month for the possession of cocaine when cops noticed that the 20-year-old was smoking an unidentified object from pipe.
He was let go after a $10,250 bail.
Although Indio was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, he was let off easy due to being a first time offender and was “automatically entitled to a drug diversion program,” TMZ reported.
Unlike most parents who would be furious of their child’s run in with the law, Robert Downey Jr. appeared to be more sympathetic and thankful for the cops intervention.
“We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s Department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
Downey continued, relating his own personal struggles of addiction to his son’s.
“Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it,” the actor stated. “Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being.”
Robert Downey Jr. notably recovered from an unrelenting drug addiction that eventually sent him to prison. Unlike most unlucky victims to drug abuse, Downey made it out alive and well and is now famously known for his role as Tony Stark in Marvel’s Iron Man.
Hopefully Indio will learn from his father’s past mistakes and receive all the help that he can get.
