It appears that artist Rita Ora’s ex, Calvin Harris, is the reason for her no-show on Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.
During an interview with Ryan Seacrest on Tuesday, Rita Ora confirmed rumors that her ex prohibited the singer from performing her hit single “I Will Never Let you Down” live.
According to Rita, she had no choice but to comply due to Harris having ownership of their former love song.
“I was (supposed to perform). He wrote and produced the song, and for anyone who doesn’t understand how it works, he has to approve anything, TV-wise. He owns the rights to it, and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards,” Rita told Seacrest.
Earlier, Rita informed Seacrest that the song was initially written about the couple’s previous romance.
“The song was written out of love, and it was convenient for the time it was written in. People move on and move forward, but the message stays: I will never let you down,” Rita stated.
The 23-year-old singer and her former boyfriend broke up in June. Reports of their break up arose after Harris confirmed their separation on Twitter June 6.
He tweeted: “To address speculation – myself and Rita ended our relationship some time ago. She is a beautiful, talented woman & I wish her all the best.”
Although the split was reported to be amicable, the recent news surrounding Harris and his blocking of Rita’s Sunday performance tells otherwise.
Rita continued, telling Seacrest that it would have been nice to get reports of her canceled performance earlier.
“No. No no no no no no. I was scheduled to perform, my fans were texting me, we put a lot of effort and work into the show … I could’ve got told a few weeks earlier, that would’ve been nice. It was a last-minute change, but you know what, we move on, we move forward.”
When asked whether she was ‘pissed’ at her ex, Rita could not hide her dissatisfaction of Harris’ decision.
“Yeah, I’m not going to lie. The show was going to be awesome. I put a lot of my own money into it.”
We can’t blame Rita for being upset over her ex’s behavior.
Seems her former boyfriend is still bitter about their breakup.
