Zayn Malik took to his Twitter account last night, where he confirmed reports that he would not be attending Capital FM’s Summertime Ball at the Wembley Arena, despite having signed on to appear at the event weeks prior to the concert.
And while Zayn claimed he had suffered an anxiety attack and couldn’t get himself to perform in front of 130,000 people, some social media users seem to believe that the real reason why the singer didn’t show up was down to him not wanting to have an awkward run-in with ex-fiancée Perrie Edwards.
As many already know, Perrie was left heartbroken when Malik had called her on her phone and told her that he was breaking up with her — and that was all in the midst of the couple planning their wedding and building their dream home together.
So, as one could imagine, Edwards was heartbroken. Thanks to her Little Mix group members, Perrie was able to get over the breakup and hasn’t looked back since.
Zayn, on the other hand, reportedly didn’t want to run into Perrie, considering all the things he put her through during the time she and the X Factor contestant went their separate ways.
Following their split, Malik began liking endless photos on social media of Fifth Harmony’s photos — in fact, he even liked a photo that said the girl band was much better than Little Mix, leaving Perrie feeling all types of ways.
So with all that in mind, there seems to be an understanding as to why Zayn would want to avoid running into Perrie at such a public event. While the singer claims to have moved on, she could have thrown the biggest tantrum and demanded an explanation as to why the “Pillowtalk” singer was treating her so badly following their split.
It also didn’t take long for Zayn Malik to move on after his breakup with Perrie, as he’s now dating Instagram model Gigi Hadid. The two were rumored to have broken up last month, but the duo shut those reports down after strolling through the streets of New York together just a few days ago.
While Zayn Malik canceled his performance at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball, the singer did fly out to London this week — just in time to take to the stage. So, Zayn clearly had the intention to perform, but many seem to think that after he found out Perrie Edwards would be there, he quickly bailed out.
